Why should you trust us?

The Swank Guide has partnered with Booking.com and Tripadvisor to provide easy booking links for the hotels we recommend. Why? Because it ensures we can get you the lowest price, and it helps us continue to bring you empowering and entertaining content.

This new booking feature does not signal a change in our total editorial independence or in our status as a fully fan-supported business. Simply put: we have no financial relationship with any hotel or experience we recommend. We do not accept bags of cash, Dodgers tickets, sacrificial animals or blushing flatteries. The only way to get recommended by Swank is if we've tried it, loved it and would recommend it to our family and friends.

Swank you!

  • Geejam Hotel Jamaica, 122 Skippers Blvd San San, Port Antonio, Jamaica W.I.
  • Price guide: $$$$$
  • We loved: The incredible scenery in this remote area in North East Jamaica; the resort's double identity: a hotel, sure, but also a recording studio (with our research revealing Harry Styles, Alicia Keys, Florence + The Machine and Drake among those who have recorded or produced music here); the art walls in the rooms paying tribute to Jamaica and to photography; the room names honoring Jamaican musicians; the rafting experience (among the hotel's curated experiences), one of Swank's top experiences in the country during our monthlong stay.

Tucked away in Port Antonio, this isn’t your typical Jamaican resort. With a limited number of rooms, the vibe’s intimate and maybe a tad exclusive in a hipster kind of way. But, as a non-hipster myself, I felt 100% welcome and comfortable at Geejam. It’s the kind of place where you might stumble upon a low-key celeb trying to escape the paparazzi or a music producer looking for some inspiration in the Jamaican jungle.

Geejam’s restaurant, next to the hilltop infinity pool, serves up Jamaican dishes that are authentic without trying too hard. If that’s not your scene, head over to their bar, where the drinks are as chill as the ambience. As for the amenities, between the sleek pool and private beach access (you’ll have to walk down the hill and cross the street to get to the beach), you’re sorted, whether you’re looking to take a dip or just grab a cold one by the sea.

By Jamaican standards, Geejam is relatively affordable. If you’ve got the cash, maybe go for the bungalows or private villas. If not, at least splurge for the rooms on the top floor with great views. Geejam offers an experience that’s a far cry from the tired all-inclusive resorts: luxe, with a bit of an edge.

Note: if you are disabled this place won’t work; too many stairs.

Overall, this is a great place to base yourself for exploring the beauty of this remote area of Jamaica.
