Why should you trust us?

The Swank Guide has partnered with Booking.com and Tripadvisor to provide easy booking links for the hotels we recommend. Why? Because it ensures we can get you the lowest price, and it helps us continue to bring you empowering and entertaining content.

This new booking feature does not signal a change in our total editorial independence or in our status as a fully fan-supported business. Simply put: we have no financial relationship with any hotel or experience we recommend. We do not accept bags of cash, Dodgers tickets, sacrificial animals or blushing flatteries. The only way to get recommended by Swank is if we've tried it, loved it and would recommend it to our family and friends.

Swank you!

  • Juvet Landscape Hotel, Alstad 24, 6210 Valldal, Norway
  • Price guide: $$$$$

The setting, architecture and food at the Juvet Landscape hotel is so unique, elevating this place to front-runner position for Norway’s best luxury hotel. Bonus: foodies are in for a real treat.

There are only 10 rooms here, which makes the place feel small and intimate, but the grounds are quite expansive. One of the reasons to come here is the minimalist – restrained – architecture of the Landscape rooms juxtaposed with the old school barn where food and drink is served up. The old Norwegian barn house has been lovingly restored, and is a study in rustic sophistication. Most guests sit at a communal dining table, which means you’ll have to meet some new people… not everyone’s cup of tea. I suspect that, if you are attracted to a hotel like this, you are going to meet like-minded people. If you prefer some privacy, or maybe have kids with you (they are allowed, but would be bored I think), then there is a private room where you can eat.

There’s also a nice spa on the property with a hot tub overlooking the river and a steam room. Oddly, the room that looks like it’s a sauna isn’t, in fact, a sauna… maybe it will be some day.

The setting is gorgeous with a river running through the property and mountains all around. You’re minutes from tons of great outdoor activities and 90 minutes from what I think is Norway’s most charming city: Alesund.
