Why should you trust us?

The Swank Guide has partnered with Booking.com and Tripadvisor to provide easy booking links for the hotels we recommend. Why? Because it ensures we can get you the lowest price, and it helps us continue to bring you empowering and entertaining content.

This new booking feature does not signal a change in our total editorial independence or in our status as a fully fan-supported business. Simply put: we have no financial relationship with any hotel or experience we recommend. We do not accept bags of cash, Dodgers tickets, sacrificial animals or blushing flatteries. The only way to get recommended by Swank is if we've tried it, loved it and would recommend it to our family and friends.

Swank you!

  • Jakes Hotel, Calabash Bay P A, Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth 00000, Jamaica
  • Price guide: $$$$$
  • We loved: The singularity of each accommodation option, featuring bold colors and Art Deco accents; the quirk factor in the rooms, which are older and more traditional in style than Swank typically admires but which charmed us nonetheless through the cool wall art, popping colors and thoughtful touches of bohemian flair; the ocean view rooms that are literally a few feet from the ocean (windows come equipped with screens, so leave them open at night to sleep to the sound of the breaking waves); the ocean-themed art on the restaurant tables; the Pelican Bar, constructed from scrapwood by a local fisherman: a fitting tribute to making something out of nothing, the overall spirit of the area.

Set along the sun-soaked stretches of Jamaica’s South Coast, Jakes Hotel in Treasure Beach is the très-chic getaway for the boho elite…. even if you’re on a budget. This boutique resort’s eclectic and colorful mix of island-vibe cottages are uniquely designed and the complete opposite of what you’d find at the mega-resorts that dominate Jamaica. Layer in the laid-back charm of slightly scruffy, yet adorable, Treasure Beach, and you have a cocktail full of fun and relaxation.

There are 49 rooms, suites, and cottages here, each with its own bohemian twist. Whether it’s the intimate bungalows with mosaic mirrors, or the palatial oceanfront villas with private pools and direct water access, each space has its own unique, quirky quality, with locally-sourced art and furnishings.

But the experience doesn’t end when the sun sets. For all you gourmands, Jakes has two dining options. Dive into the farm-to-table magic of Jakes’ main restaurant next to the pool and beach, that will still be there the next day for that alfresco breakfast and bloody mary. Option two is Jack Sprats – the hotel’s ever-buzzing beach bar + restaurant that serves jerk, pizza and other Jamaican faves.

Then there’s the Pelican Bar that’s not part of Jakes, but close enough for a convenient excursion that Jakes will arrange for you. Think world’s coolest shabby-chic bar on a sandbar a mile offshore…
