Monastery With a Twist
Vocabolo Moscatelli is adults-only for guests over 14 and has just 12 rooms and suites split between the restored monastery and an annex. The setting is peaceful and rural rather than dramatically scenic. There is no full spa, though massages take place in the deconsecrated chapel, while the Spa Suite has its own sauna and outdoor Jacuzzi. The restaurant welcomes outside guests, and Sundays are pizza night. Most activities require some driving, with Assisi, Cortona, Gubbio, wineries and hiking trails all within reach. A car is strongly recommended.

Vocabolo Moscatelli’s restaurant takes a plant-forward approach, putting seasonal vegetables at the center while using meat and fish as supporting players. Umbrian ingredients and small local producers anchor the menu, but Middle Eastern and Asian influences keep it from feeling like another traditional country trattoria. Breakfast is à la carte and available throughout the day, lunch flows into aperitivo, and dinner can be served indoors, in the conservatory or outside in the garden. Sundays are pizza night. Bar Matite focuses on cocktails, regional spirits and local wines, while the outdoor fire pit becomes the social heart of the hotel after dinner.
