Air conditioning is deemed unnecessary at this altitude, a bold stance that nature generally supports; we were not hot. The beach shuttle service suggests a “best of both worlds” approach – mountain-top views without permanent exile from the sea. With 37 rooms, it’s exclusive enough to feel special but not so exclusive that you’ll have to talk to yourself at breakfast. That 20% tax might sting, but the view of the Pitons provides complimentary pain relief. The one walkable dinner option is, fittingly, Hotel Chocolat – because nothing says luxury quite like being able to stumble home from a cacao-induced euphoria. Questionable design choices at this price point.

Food + Drink On-site surprises
One restaurant plays the “we have the best view anyway” card quite convincingly. The bar ensures you’ll appreciate said view in progressively increasing degrees of amazement. While Hotel Chocolat across the street offers a tempting alternative (and a legitimate excuse to eat chocolate for dinner), other dining options require vehicular assistance. Skip Fond Doux resort unless you enjoy cautionary tales, and consider the 15-minute taxi to the closest town, Soufriere, an exercise in culinary Russian roulette.
