Vibes
Villa Above the Chaos
This is not a walk-out-the-door-into-Florence hotel. It sits above the city on the Fiesole hillside, which is either the entire point or the main drawback, depending on your trip. The free shuttle helps, but you are choosing distance from the tourist crush in exchange for gardens, views, air and quiet. Book carefully: rooms vary significantly, and the Duomo-view rooms are the ones that make the location make immediate emotional sense. Entry rooms can be compact, so move up a category if space matters.

Food + Drink On-site surprises
Da Giacomo Restaurant at Salviatino brings a refined, big-city restaurant sensibility to the hills above Florence: polished, seafood-leaning and much better than the phrase “hotel restaurant” usually suggests. In warm weather, the terrace is the whole argument: dinner outside, Florence below, Duomo in the distance, heat lamps doing shoulder-season work. In cooler months, service moves into the Sala Alfresco, which keeps the villa mood intact. Rosa Bar handles the aperitivo / sunset drink moment, and the Pool Bar covers seasonal snacks, juices, cocktails and light garden food. Food rating from stay: 8/10.
