Four Seasons Hotel

A former Renaissance palace built in 1473 — later home to a Medici cardinal — two Renaissance buildings set within Florence's largest private garden. Frescoed halls, one Michelin-starred restaurant, serious spa. Tons of history, and one of the most debated historical renovations.

Stuff You Should Know

The exterior on Borgo Pinti is deliberately understated — you will walk past it. Entry-level rooms start at US$1,500 in low season and US$2,500 in high season. The outdoor pool is seasonal (check opening dates). The hotel provides a shuttle to the city centre; the location, while pleasant, can feel slightly removed. The design skews traditional — golds, heavy fabrics, ornate furnishings — which is a deliberate choice, but not always a good one. Best suited to families with children, first-time Florence visitors, or travelers who want a retreat from the city rather than immersion in it.

One Michelin Star, a Vermouth Bar & Private Ponte Vecchio Dinners in a Frescoed Renaissance Palace

Il Palagio holds one Michelin star — Chef Paolo Lavezzini’s cooking is seasonal, ingredient-led, and stripped back. The Atrium Bar, right off the main lobby, is the hotel’s social heart but the design lets it down. Al Fresco is the standout terrace experience: garden-facing, umbrellas, exactly where you want to be on a sunny afternoon, with the hotel’s seafood restaurant inside. Bar Berni in Palazzo del Nero is a niche vermouth bar — fresh, unstuffy, worth a detour. The Ponte Vecchio private terrace dinner (Il Palagio kitchen, exclusive to hotel guests) is a dramatic dining arrangement.
