25 Hour Hotel Piazza San Paolino

A theatrical design hotel in a former monastery-turned-pawnshop, built around Dante’s Divine Comedy—you choose Heaven or Hell at check-in. Home to butcher Dario Cecchini’s first Florence restaurant, in the city’s best-located, least-crowded central district.

The Highs

Dario Cecchini’s first Florence restaurant, under a glass dome
The Heaven-or-Hell room concept (all-white Paradiso vs. deep-red Inferno)
An unbeatable central-but-uncrowded Santa Maria Novella location
Surprisingly affordable for the design and location

Stuff You Should Know

Rooms commit fully to the Dante concept—Inferno rooms are wall-to-wall red (wallpaper, bathroom and all), Paradiso rooms all-white. You pick at booking, and the themed rooms divide opinion, so choose deliberately. The hotel sits inside Florence’s ZTL restricted-traffic zone—if driving, use the on-site garage (≈€30/day) and give your plate at check-in to avoid fines. The Cecchini restaurant books up fast; reserve ahead. Three street-level entrances, none clearly marked “reception.”

Food + Drink On-site surprises

A famous Chianti butcher’s first Florence restaurant—under a glass dome, inside a former monastery.

The headline act is Cecchini in Città, the first Florence restaurant from eighth-generation Panzano butcher Dario Cecchini (of Netflix’s Chef’s Table). The grill sits inside a massive fireplace beneath the courtyard’s glass dome—genuinely dramatic. Two formats: the communal Cecchini Griglia tasting (~€70, seatings at 1pm and 8pm, starting with “Chianti Sushi” and bistecca) and the à-la-carte Cecchini Famiglia. The Companion Dolceamaro bar—dark, red, Negroni-forward, “a church for alcohol”—has a buchetta del vino serving wine to the street. I Golosi alimentari does panini, coffee and local goods amid hanging crochet salumi.
