Stuff You Should Know

Welcome to Zihua's answer to the eternal question "Can a chain hotel develop personality?" The Thompson proves it's possible, though they had to sacrifice a few corporate checkboxes along the way.

While the service occasionally forgets it's wearing a luxury nametag (6.5/10), the location plays matchmaker between privacy seekers and social butterflies. Three pools ensure you'll never have to share your splash space with more than a polite number of fellow guests, while the swim-up suites suggest someone in design actually understands what "direct pool access" means. Watch for those sneaky extra fees though - they add about 30% to your final bill, presumably to fund the accounting department's creativity.

Food and drink

Food + Drink On-site surprises

Two restaurants searching for their identity

Ceniza claims Mexican surf and turf mastery, while Hao hedges its bets with an international menu that spans continents. The food quality is good, not great, but the setting makes up for that. The beach bar's proximity to the infinity pool proves someone understands the physics of vacation psychology, while the ability to escape to local restaurants means you're never held hostage by hotel pricing.
