Stuff You Should Know

The Peninsula may sit on the “wrong” side of the river, but it turns that into a strength with a fleet of elegant boats connecting guests to shopping, the Skytrain, and even rival hotels. Rooms with balconies are worth the splurge for front-row skyline views, though some of the rooms have a distinct 1990s feel. Dining is strong across the board, especially at Thiptara. While larger than some boutique options, the hotel still feels calm and well-run. Rates are very competitive for a property of this caliber, and the whole experience has a familiarity that appeals to repeat travelers who appreciate consistent, understated luxury.

Food and drink

Food + Drink On-site surprises

Strong on both substance and setting

The Peninsula’s dining scene is low-key excellent. Thiptara, set in traditional teak houses by the river, serves some of the best Thai food in the city with real local flavors and refined service. Mei Jiang brings a more formal Cantonese experience, while River Café & Terrace offers a global spread with a lovely breakfast buffet that takes full advantage of the riverside setting, and often a buffet in the evening. The hotel’s bars are elegant but rarely crowded, our favorite being the riverside bar venue. With quality across all venues and standout views, The Peninsula proves that big hotels can still deliver on taste and ambiance.
