Stuff You Should Know

Welcome to the architectural equivalent of a choose-your-own-adventure story - is it a hotel? An Airbnb? A collection of villas having an identity crisis? The "walkable beach" claim - from the hillside villas at least - requires either Olympic-level optimism or a very creative definition of walking (think steep stairs, busy roads, and enough dust to question your life choices).

Benjamin Garcia Saxe's design brilliance occasionally arm-wrestles with budget-conscious material choices, while the kitchen's minimalist approach extends to basics like salt and cooking oil - apparently luxury doesn't include seasoning. But those views? They make you forget everything else, at least until you need to cook something. The website makes the hillside villas look closer to the beach than they really are; that’s why we’re here. Many parts of the year there’s a 2 or 3 night minimum stay.

Food and drink

Food + Drink On-site surprises

BYO... everything, apparently

The kitchen comes fully equipped with everything except, well, the things you'd actually need to cook. Pepper stands in lonely vigilance, perhaps wondering where its friend salt went. The good news? You'll have plenty of time to contemplate ingredient acquisition during your scenic trek to town. While the villa's design encourages gourmet aspirations, the bare cupboards suggest more of a "fend for yourself" philosophy. A decent store is a 7 minute drive away, but it’s aimed at expats and is expensive. Consider buying supplies before you reach Nosara.
