Why should you trust us?

The Swank Guide has partnered with Booking.com and Tripadvisor to provide easy booking links for the hotels we recommend. Why? Because it ensures we can get you the lowest price, and it helps us continue to bring you empowering and entertaining content.

This new booking feature does not signal a change in our total editorial independence or in our status as a fully fan-supported business. Simply put: we have no financial relationship with any hotel or experience we recommend. We do not accept bags of cash, Dodgers tickets, sacrificial animals or blushing flatteries. The only way to get recommended by Swank is if we've tried it, loved it and would recommend it to our family and friends.

  • Grandtully Hotel, Grandtully, Strathtay, Pitlochry PH9 0PL, United Kingdom
  • Price guide: $$$$$

Tucked away in the Tay River Valley, about 1.5 hours from Edinburgh and Glasgow, The Grandtully Hotel is the kind of place where food takes center stage and everything else is just a very well-curated supporting act. With only eight stylish rooms, it’s intimate, laid-back, and leans into its Scottish countryside charm. Think: roaring fires, good wine, and long, leisurely meals. There’s no spa, no gym, and definitely no infinity pool. But if your idea of a perfect day involves hiking, kayaking, or white-water rafting, followed by a fantastic meal and a dram of whisky by the fire, this place might just be your new favorite escape.

The hotel is home to two restaurants: The Tully, a casual, all-day spot serving elevated pub fare, natural wines, and house-made gin, and Ballintaggart, its more refined, reservation-only counterpart that’s all about hyper-local, hyper-seasonal tasting menus. Speaking of Ballintaggart, the hotel’s sister property—a farm, cook school, and event venue—sits just a few miles away. If you time it right, you can book a cooking class, a Sunday roast, or a full farm stay.

While it leans boutique, Grandtully isn’t trying to be overly precious. It’s welcoming, a little quirky, and has the kind of unfussy style that just works. If you’re looking for five-star formality, this isn’t it. But if your idea of luxury is killer food, a cozy bar, and adventure right at your doorstep, The Grandtully Hotel delivers. Just don’t forget to book ahead, especially if you’re coming on a weekend, when city escapees descend in search of Scotland’s best dinner.
