Why should you trust us?

The Swank Guide has partnered with Booking.com and Tripadvisor to provide easy booking links for the hotels we recommend. Why? Because it ensures we can get you the lowest price, and it helps us continue to bring you empowering and entertaining content.

This new booking feature does not signal a change in our total editorial independence or in our status as a fully fan-supported business. Simply put: we have no financial relationship with any hotel or experience we recommend. We do not accept bags of cash, Dodgers tickets, sacrificial animals or blushing flatteries. The only way to get recommended by Swank is if we've tried it, loved it and would recommend it to our family and friends.

Swank you!

  • Casa Chameleon at Las Catalinas, Playa Danta, Potrero, Provincia de Guanacaste, Las Catalinas, Costa Rica
  • Price guide: $$$$$

Swank will take you inside Casa Chameleon at Las Catalinas in Costa Rica, a Relais & Chateaux resort that looks great on the surface, but was ultimately a real disappointment. We’ll show you what we loved, what disappointed us, and everything in between.

This is one of the most expensive resorts in Costa Rica, so I think it’s fair to have high expectations.

Casa Chameleon at Las Catalinas is a 21-room resort located in the coastal town of Las Catalinas, situated on the Guanacaste coast of Costa Rica. The resort’s built into a cliff with great views of the Pacific Ocean. The resort features 21 nice size villas, each with its own private saltwater infinity pool and ocean views. Although Swank didn’t like this resort overall, we’d note that the views are some of the best in Costa Rica.

In addition to the private villa pools, the resort has a main infinity pool overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Guests can enjoy various activities, such as yoga classes, cooking lessons, and guided hikes through the nearby hills.

Casa Chameleon offers an on-site restaurant, which serves locally-inspired cuisine, focusing on fresh ingredients sourced from nearby farms and fishing villages. The restaurant also offers a selection of international wines and cocktails.

The resort is situated in Las Catalinas, a car-free, master-planned town that emphasizes sustainability and outdoor living, but seemed sterile and uninteresting.

Casa Chameleon at Las Catalinas is located approximately 45 minutes from Liberia International Airport and about an hour from Tamarindo, a popular surf town known for its nightlife and dining scene.
