Jamaica’s 10 Best Boutique Hotels and Resorts:
7. The Skylark  —  8. The Rockhouse

The Skylark, Negril

The Skylark

  • Price Guidance:
  • $$$$$

The Skylark Hotel in Negril was part of my $200/day Jamaica luxury challenge. If you’re on a budget but still love great design, check out our video about how to stay in Jamaica in luxury for under $200 a day (includes hotel, 3 meals and an activity).

The hotel has a Miami Beach art deco vibe and is right on Negril’s famous Seven Mile Beach… so you are never stuck in your hotel if you feel like going out for dinner or drinks. There are tons of options along the beach. But if you are feeling lazy, the hotel has an excellent laid back restaurant and bar.

The Skylark

The rooms are modern and bright – all with nice balconies or terraces that look out into a courtyard… but there are almost no ocean views here from the rooms… but don’t worry because the bench set up is great, with loungers and umbrellas galore, or go for the small tents with beach chairs, a perfect way to laze away the day on the beach, in style.

Highs:

  • You get a lot for your money here
  • The beach set-up
  • The on-site restaurant

Lows:

  • Sometimes you get hassled by vendors on Seven Mile Beach

The Rockhouse, Negril

The Rockhouse

  • Price Guidance:
  • $$$$$

This Jamaican resort’s unique and packs tons of fun, with surprises at every turn. The Rockhouse is perched on the cliffs above the Caribbean Sea; no beach here… just rocks… But that’s a good thing with lots of places to jump into the sea, or maybe snorkel instead.

This is a sister property to the Skylark, so our suggestion, if you want to come to Negril, is have some beach time at the Skylark, and rock time at the Rockhouse.

The Rockhouse

Choose from bungalows, to premium private villas with timber, stone, four-poster beds, and private sun decks offering panoramic sea views. There are also lower cost rooms, without views, making this resort accessible to folks on tighter budgets.

Fill your days with adventures – think cliff diving, snorkeling, yoga, spa pampering and local excursions. Foodies love the three on-site restaurants. The Rockhouse Restaurant offers a blend of Jamaican and international flavors, complimented by cliff-top sunset views. Pushcart Restaurant & Rum Bar brings a laid back, local vibe and Jamaican street food culture to your plate, while the Pool Grill & Bar serves up casual yet gourmet grub, and some funky architecture as a side dish. There are also a lot of restaurants and bars within walking distance from the hotel.

Highs:

  • Cliff jumping
  • The setting
  • The price, you get a lot here for the money

Lows:

  • Some of the furniture and fixtures around the place could use an upgrade
