Ah…. Ubud. The cultural heart of Bali.

This little town in the hills of central Bali has been drawing travelers and artists for decades, and for good reason. From its stunning terraced rice fields to its vibrant traditional dances and ceremonies, Ubud is the place to go if you want to experience the real Bali.

First things first: let’s talk food. Ubud is home to some of the most delicious and authentic Indonesian cuisine you’ll find on the island. Whether you’re dining at a traditional warung (Indonesian for small family owned restaurant or stall) or a fancy restaurant, the food here is fresh, flavorful, and yummy.

But the food is just the beginning. Ubud is also known for its natural beauty, with lush green rice paddies, and rivers flowing through steep jungle valleys. Take a walk through the rice paddies and you’ll see why Ubud is often referred to as the “Green Heart of Bali.” You can also visit the Tegalalang Rice Terrace, one of the most famous rice terraces in the area, for a view of the rolling hills and rice paddies.

And of course, there’s the culture. Ubud is famous for its traditional dances, ceremonies, and festivals. Visit the Pura Taman Saraswati temple, with its stunning lotus pond and traditional Balinese architecture, and you’ll see why this is one of the most important cultural landmarks in Bali. You can also attend a traditional dance performance, like the Barong and Keris Dance, which tells the story of good and evil in Balinese mythology.

In addition to its cultural attractions, Ubud is also a hub for wellness and spirituality. You’ll find plenty of yoga studios, meditation centers, and holistic healing centers. There are also massage joints where you can connect with your inner self and, maybe, find inner peace. If not, at least you have a good excuse for a massage.

When it comes to dining and drinking in Ubud, there’s tons of options. This little town is home to some of the best and most authentic restaurants and bars you’ll find on the island. Whether you’re in the mood for traditional Indonesian fare or international cuisine, you’ll find something to suit your taste buds in Ubud.

Outdoor dining options are plentiful. You can be entertained by non-stop traffic, or savor your food and drinks while taking in the breathtaking views a little outside the hustle and bustle. And of course, there’s the traditional warungs, where you can sample some of the best local cuisine in a casual, relaxed setting.

But it’s not just the food and drinks that make the dining and drinking scene in Ubud so special. It’s also the people. You’ll find a warm and welcoming community of locals and travelers, who are passionate about food, drink, and the good life. Whether you’re sitting at a bar, sipping a cocktail, or chatting with the locals at a traditional warung, you’ll feel right at home in Ubud. So raise a glass, order another round, and get ready to experience the culinary and cultural delights of this magical town in the heart of Bali.

We think Ubud is a Bali must-see, but to set expectations: this small town isn’t as small as it used to be. It sometimes feels overrun by foreigners, the traffic can be bad, and it’s lost some of its charm in recent years. But you only need to search a little to find Ubud’s charms… they are definitely still there.
