Stuff You Should Know

It’s a hillside property with no elevators and lots of stairs, so it’s not ideal for mobility-challenged travelers. There’s a golf cart service to help between key areas, but many steps are unavoidable. Food is generally good, though the Thai restaurant suffers from poor lighting. Rooms have an understated Thai chic meets beach cottage love nest feel, with everything well-maintained and ageing gracefully. Beach bar is a highlight. Massages are world-class. This is one of Phuket's best luxury-value hybrids.

Food and drink

Food + Drink On-site surprises

Pretty good food, with room to improve in ambiance

The Surin offers three dining options: a beachfront Thai restaurant, a more casual international menu served by the pool, and a Western fine dining venue overlooking the pool. The food itself is flavorful and well-prepared—especially the off-menu items available on request—but the ambiance at the Thai restaurant suffers from overly bright lighting and awkward table lamps that disrupt the otherwise serene setting. Highlights include a memorable chicken tikka salad and a solid wine list. Breakfast, served at the resort’s highest point, includes buffet and a la carte options with gorgeous sea views.
