Stuff You Should Know

Lower rooms can get musty (that's what happens when you literally embrace the jungle). Accessibility is not its strong suit unless you consider stairs a cardio opportunity.

The Italian restaurant draws actual Italians (the ultimate culinary endorsement). Across the street, Naughty Nuri's serves ribs that will ruin your white linen but save your soul. Daily offerings at your doorstep remind you that you're in Bali, not Bluetooth-enabled Bangkok. A good variety of rooms/prices vary from garden views to valley-facing villas with private plunge pools. The hotel has a gym, yoga classes, and guided rice-field walks, making it perfect for relaxation and exploration.

Where breakfast becomes performance art

Breakfast venue so stunning it should charge admission – koi pond, waterfall, and jungle views conspire to make you a morning person. Mediterranean-Asian fusion in the bar for when you can't decide which continent you're craving. Italian restaurant that somehow convinced locals to eat tourist-district pasta (no small feat). The bar channels 'tropical living room of your dreams' energy, minus the responsibility of actually owning tropical real estate. And then there's Naughty Nuri's across the street, where the martinis are strong enough to make you forget you just ordered ribs in Bali. For a hotel this close to Ubud's restaurant scene, the in-house dining punches well above its weight – though you might want to venture out just to maintain the illusion that you're actually exploring.
