Stuff You Should Know

The geothermal power plant in the distance. We think it’s kind of cool and the hotel owes its origins to it - but we get it if you don't love it. The bar appears to defy physics, offering views so spectacular you'll forget your drink until it turns lukewarm. Located an hour from Reykjavik, it's just remote enough to feel adventurous without requiring satellite phone coverage. And yes, that is Iceland's largest lake you're gazing at, in case you needed another way to measure the scale of your escapism. Spa treatments must be booked in advance.

Food and drink

Food + Drink On-site surprises

Where altitude meets attitude

The bar floats like your expectations after that third Icelandic craft cocktail, while the restaurant ensures you won't have to choose between sustenance and scenery. The views span from rolling hills to Iceland's largest lake, with a geothermal plant providing industrial-chic ambiance that somehow works better than it should. Modern Icelandic cuisine that scored a 9/10 in our book.
