Stuff You Should Know

Staff operate on their own delightfully relaxed timeline - think of it as forced meditation. The heritage status means some areas wear their age like a badge of honor (or slight dishevelment). Beach-seekers need wheels - you're 10 minutes from sand and surf. Skip Little Siolim unless traffic noise is your preferred meditation soundtrack. Mother-of-pearl windowpanes and shell-lime walls are conversation starters, but the minibars are conversely nonexistent. This is good for budget travellers, but wasn't quite good enough to make our top India hotels list even at the bargain prices.

Food and drink

Food + Drink On-site surprises

Home cooking that puts "home" first, "cooking" a close but unhurried second

Dining happens courtyard-side where ceiling fans wage war against humidity. The kitchen operates on notice-required basis - spontaneous snackers beware. Fresh-caught seafood features heavily, from pomfret to mussels, while the afternoon tea appears like clockwork at 4:30. Breakfast swings both Continental and Indian ways, and the three-course set dinners are worth planning your day around. Just remember: in this 300-year-old mansion, patience isn't just a virtue - it's a requirement.
